Manchester City's pursuit of Elliot Anderson has encountered an early obstacle after Nottingham Forest rejected the club's opening offer for the highly rated midfielder. The Premier League champions have identified the England international as a key transfer target this summer, but Forest have signaled they are unwilling to part with one of their most influential players without receiving a substantial fee.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders in English football following a remarkable rise over the past two seasons. His performances for Nottingham Forest have attracted interest from several top clubs, with Manchester City and Manchester United among those closely monitoring his situation ahead of the new campaign.

City are understood to view Anderson as an important addition to their long-term midfield plans. With the club preparing for the next phase of its squad evolution, manager Pep Guardiola is believed to be a strong admirer of the midfielder's versatility, work rate and ability to control games from central areas.

Reports last week indicated that Anderson is leaning towards a move to the Etihad Stadium if a transfer materializes, giving Manchester City an advantage in the race for his signature. While Manchester United remain interested, City are currently regarded as the frontrunners should Forest eventually agree to sell.

Nottingham Forest, however, remain determined to retain the player and have placed a premium valuation on him. Club officials consider Anderson a central figure in their future plans and are under no pressure to negotiate a sale, particularly given the length of time remaining on his contract.

The rejection of City's first proposal is not expected to end negotiations. The reigning Premier League champions are likely to return with an improved offer as they seek to bridge the gap between the two clubs' valuations and avoid missing out on one of their priority transfer targets.

Anderson's rapid development since leaving Newcastle United has transformed him into one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League. His impressive displays have earned him recognition at international level and strengthened his reputation as one of England's brightest talents.

With the summer transfer window gathering pace, attention will now turn to Manchester City's next move. Forest remain firm in their stance, but City are expected to continue pushing for a deal as they look to secure the services of a player widely viewed as one of the country's most promising midfielders.
