The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned 35 Members of the Narok County Assembly over a violent altercation that erupted on the Assembly floor during a sitting held on May 19. The anti-graft agency has launched investigations into allegations of misconduct and breach of leadership and integrity standards following the chaotic incident.

The lawmakers have been directed to appear before EACC investigators to record statements regarding the fracas, which disrupted official Assembly business and attracted widespread public attention. Narok County Assembly Speaker Davis Solian Dikirr and Clerk Joseph Kasaine Lengeny have also been summoned to assist with the investigations.

The confrontation reportedly broke out during deliberations surrounding an impeachment motion against Narok Finance County Executive Committee Member David Ole Muntet. The motion had generated sharp divisions among MCAs, with rival factions clashing over both the proposed ouster and broader leadership disputes within the Assembly.

Witnesses said tensions escalated after disagreements emerged over the direction of the debate and proposed changes in House leadership. Heated exchanges soon turned physical, forcing security officers to intervene as lawmakers traded blows on the Assembly floor.

The disorder brought proceedings to a standstill, with Assembly security personnel escorting the Speaker out of the chamber as the situation deteriorated. The sitting was eventually suspended amid the chaos.

Investigators are now seeking to establish the circumstances that led to the violence and determine whether any laws, ethical standards, or Assembly regulations were breached by the legislators involved.

The MCAs are expected to appear before EACC officials beginning June 8 at the commission’s Integrity Centre headquarters in Nairobi, where statements will be recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The outcome of the investigations could pave the way for disciplinary, administrative, or legal action against any individuals found culpable for the disruption that paralysed proceedings at the Narok County Assembly.
