Hon. Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya after a long illness.

Supreme Court Judge Mohammed Ibrahim has passed away, the Judiciary has confirmed, marking the end of a long and distinguished career in Kenya’s justice system. Justice Ibrahim died in Nairobi after a prolonged illness, just weeks before his expected retirement from the bench.

The veteran jurist had been receiving medical care in recent months and had only recently returned to the country following treatment abroad. His death has been described as a major loss to the Judiciary and the legal fraternity at large.

Justice Ibrahim was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2011 after the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution. He played a key role in shaping constitutional law in Kenya and sat on several landmark cases, including presidential election petitions that tested the country’s democratic institutions.

Tributes have continued to pour in from judges, lawyers and national leaders, who have praised his integrity, calm temperament and unwavering commitment to the rule of law. Chief Justice Martha Koome described him as a dedicated servant of justice whose contribution will be remembered for years.

He is survived by his wife and children. The Judiciary is expected to announce details of funeral and memorial arrangements in the coming days as the nation mourns one of its most respected judges.
