Six Senior Police Officers Face Action Over Nandi Hills Pool Hall Assault

Pool assault by police where they beat youths who were enjoying the game one month ago
The National Police Service (NPS) has ordered administrative action against six senior police officers following the assault of several men who were playing pool in Nandi Hills, Nandi County, on January 10.
The officers affected include the Tinderet Sub-County Police Commander (OCPD) and the Nandi Hills Officer Commanding Station (OCS), alongside four other commanders attached to security units operating within the area.
The decision follows investigations by the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) after CCTV footage of the incident circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage and condemnation over alleged police brutality.
The footage showed armed and uniformed officers storming a pool hall in Nandi Hills, ordering patrons to lie on the floor and assaulting some of them with batons as they demanded identification documents.
According to the NPS, the victims were engaged in lawful recreational activity at the time, and there was no evidence presented to justify the use of force by the officers involved.
In a statement, the NPS said the IAU investigations established command and supervisory failures, prompting recommendations for administrative disciplinary action against officers responsible for oversight in the area.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja accepted the recommendations and directed that immediate administrative measures be instituted against the six officers.
The NPS reiterated its commitment to professionalism and accountability, warning that misconduct and abuse of power by officers would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is also pursuing its own investigations into the incident as calls for justice and protection of citizens’ rights continue to grow.
