Security agencies have successfully recovered 100 goats that were stolen from the Mbataru area of Tigania East in Meru County in a targeted operation aimed at tackling livestock theft and banditry in the region.
The National Police Service confirmed that the animals were traced following a reported theft and an immediate follow-up by police teams alerted to the incident.
Officers tracking the stolen livestock extended their operation beyond Meru into neighbouring Isiolo County, where the animals were eventually found at the Manyatta Zebra Grazing Zone.
Police cited the use of coordinated patrols and timely intelligence gathering as key to tracing and recovering the goats, underscoring the role of joint efforts by security agencies operating across county lines.
When located, the recovered goats were positively identified by their rightful owners and handed back in the presence of local administration officials.
Security officials said the recovery forms part of ongoing operations to deter livestock theft and banditry, which have been a persistent threat to pastoral and farming communities in parts of eastern and northern Kenya.
The police also noted that patrols have been stepped up in both Meru and Isiolo counties, with officers maintaining a visible presence to protect property and support local livelihoods.
Livestock theft has been linked to broader insecurity challenges in the region, prompting multi-agency efforts to improve coordination between the National Police Service, Administration Police, and specialised units tasked with combating banditry.
