President William Ruto has directed the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, to prepare and present a framework for establishing a dedicated Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit. The unit is aimed at enhancing security across the capital.

The President set a 60-day timeline for the submission of the framework, emphasizing the urgency of addressing security challenges in Nairobi.

Ruto made the announcement during the signing of a cooperation agreement between the national government and Nairobi County leadership, highlighting security as a top priority.

The metropolitan police unit is expected to operate alongside existing county security teams, coordinating efforts to maintain law and order in the city.

Details on the unit’s structure, operational functions, funding, and deployment strategies are yet to be disclosed, and will be outlined in the framework.
