Ruto Condemns Protest Violence, Warns Against Destruction

President William Ruto has condemned the violence and destruction witnessed during the June 25 protests, where shops were vandalized and property looted across the country.
Speaking during an event marking Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Day on Friday, June 27, 2025, Ruto said the protest organizers may be seeking power but urged them to pursue it through democratic means.
He said he has listened to the voices of the protesters and acknowledged that many claim to love Kenya. However, he warned them against destroying the very country they claim to care about.
“If you truly love Kenya, then don’t burn your country. Don’t be part of the problem. Violence is not a solution to unemployment or the challenges we are facing,” said an angry Ruto.
The president also responded to growing political chants branding him as “wantam,” a one-term President, and calls of “Ruto must go.”
He said he has no issue with the number of terms he serves but insisted the opposition must present a solid alternative.
“You cannot replace a plan you don’t like with no plan,” he said.
His remarks come amid rising public unrest over the economy and leadership.
