Kalle Rovanperä charged to his fourth FIA World Rally Championship victory in five rounds, winning the 2022 WRC Safari Rally title on Sunday afternoon earning him 65 points with seven rounds of the Championship remaining.

The Finn overcame sickness, glue-like mud and rocky gravel tracks in the Great Rift Valley to win by 52.8sec in a GR Yaris Rally1, becoming the youngest driver to win the safari rally.

Leading a Toyota’s first 1-2-3-4 finish since Kenya’s 1993 edition and the first in the WRC for 12 years, Kalle finished off what his father came close to accomplish when he finished second behind the late Colin McRae in 2002 rally edition.

Welsh team mate Elfyn Evans finished second, 52.8 seconds behind the 21-year-old, with Japan’s Takamoto Katsuta coming in third as eight-time world Champion Sebastien Ogier settled for fourth.
