The government is targeting to register 8,396 orphans and vulnerable children in Homa Bay County, in order to enable their participation in a cash transfer program aimed at providing social support.

Rangwe Deputy County Commissioner Alphet Jilo reported that an additional 853 individuals with severe disabilities are anticipated to be enrolled during this month-long registration initiative.

During the launch of this endeavor in Homa Bay town on Friday, Administrator Jilo issued a warning to potential beneficiaries about the threat of fraudulent activities.

These beneficiaries include elderly individuals aged above 70, orphaned and vulnerable children, and those with severe disabilities. Ms. Jilo emphasized the importance of vigilance, as criminals might impersonate registration officials to extort bribes.

She clarified that no fees should be paid for enrollment, emphasizing that some criminals may pose as government representatives and demand payments in exchange for inclusion.

Additionally, Ms. Jilo urged beneficiaries to exercise caution regarding the possibility of criminals collecting their personal information for illicit purposes.

Fredrick Makini, Homa Bay County Social Services Coordinator, affirmed that registration would take place in all locations throughout the county.

For individuals unable to visit the registration centers, arrangements have been made for registration at the county office.
