Former cabinet secretary Raphael Tuju being arrested by police
Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was rushed to Karen Hospital after his health deteriorated while held at Karen Police Station ahead of a scheduled court appearance. Reports indicate his blood sugar levels had dropped dangerously, prompting immediate medical intervention.
Tuju was due in court to face charges of giving false information to police regarding an alleged abduction. Authorities claim he fabricated the disappearance, asserting he was trailed by unknown individuals, while investigators cite mobile tracking and forensic evidence suggesting the claims were staged.
Legal representatives and opposition figures, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, have accused police of rough handling, which they say contributed to Tuju’s health crisis. Supporters highlighted that Tuju is recovering from a prior serious road accident and should have received prompt medical care.
The court did not proceed with his plea on March 24 due to his medical condition. A ruling on his bail and jurisdiction challenge is expected on March 25, with authorities closely monitoring his recovery at Karen Hospital.
The arrest follows Tuju’s reappearance on March 23 after being reported missing for two days. The DCI maintains the investigation will continue to determine the full circumstances behind the alleged abduction claims.
