The final rites and state funeral for the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga are set to commence tomorrow, marking the beginning of a four-day national farewell for the statesman.
The solemn events will begin with President William Ruto officially receiving the late Prime Minister's body. The body will then be briefly moved to the Lee Funeral Home before its transfer to Parliament Buildings, where the public will be allowed to pay their final respects.
Public viewing will take place from 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM. The government has confirmed that the entirety of the funeral proceedings, from the viewing through to the final burial rites, will be aired live to allow for national participation.
Following the public viewing, the body will return to the Lee Funeral Home.
The State Funeral Service, which will be conducted with full state and military protocol, is scheduled for Friday at Nyayo National Stadium. Following the service, the body will be moved to the Odinga family's Karen home for an overnight vigil.
On Saturday, the body will be transported to Kisumu for another public viewing, allowing residents of his political stronghold to mourn. It will then proceed to Bondo, Siaya County, for an overnight stay at his rural home.
The final burial ceremony will be conducted on Sunday in Bondo, with the rites being led by the Anglican Church. The burial will combine both state honors and the traditions of the Church.
