PWDs, Women, And Youth In Makueni Receive Startup Kits To Boost Entrepreneurship
Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Makueni County are among 93 youth and women who have received startup kits from the county government to boost their entrepreneurship.
The kits, which were issued by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior on Wednesday, include; sewing machines, hairdressing and salon equipment, professional high-pressure car wash machines, mechanical, carpentry, and plumbing tools kits, and welding and masonry equipment.
Governor Kilonzo said the kits will enable the PWDs, women, and youth to start and run their own businesses, which will, in turn, improve their livelihoods.
"We are committed to creating a conducive environment for PWDs to thrive in business," said Kilonzo.
According to Kenya News Agency, the governor promised to also provide the group with business licenses and mentorship to help them succeed in their businesses.
The group who come from the 30 wards across the county, expressed gratitude to the county government for the support.
They said the kits will enable them to start and run their own businesses, which will in turn improve their livelihoods and those of their families.
County Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports, and Children, Nicholas Nzioka said the beneficiaries were also attached to established craftsmen for on-the-job training to equip them with entrepreneurial skills.
“The beneficiaries were not only learning how to operate the tools and equipment but also they were attached to their mentors including carpenters, Masons, and hairstylists to learn how to manage the business,” noted Nzioka.
