President William Ruto launch new initiative to elevate Kenya's sports sector through public-private collaboration.
At a State House breakfast meeting held on August 3, 2025, President Ruto announced the formation of a technical committee comprising officials from the government, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), and the private sector.
This committee will coordinate sports sponsorships, league branding, event advertising, and streamline the broader sports ecosystem to attract private investment.
Ruto emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial partnerships, noting that sustainability hinges on clear value creation.
The government continues to deliberately invest in infrastructure, including sports stadia, grassroots academies, and bids to host CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027, to boost local talent visibility.
Ruto said ongoing challenges in the sports sector stem not from lack of funds, but from leadership and planning gaps.
He highlighted past setbacks—such as FKF’s 2022 suspension and misuse of the Sports Fund—and assured that these have been resolved, with the fund now dedicated entirely to sports development.
Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Deputy President Kindiki reaffirmed the government's willingness to foster stronger private sector participation.
