President William Samoei Ruto set for journey to Addis Ababa

President William Ruto has departed Nairobi for Addis Ababa to attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

The summit, taking place from 14 to 15 February 2026 at the African Union headquarters, will gather leaders from across the continent to deliberate on political, economic, and social issues affecting Africa.

State House confirmed that Ruto will present Kenya’s priorities on institutional reform, climate action, and trade, highlighting his role as a key advocate for continental initiatives.

He is scheduled to chair the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change, where he will present a report on climate adaptation, resilience, and financing strategies for Africa.

Ruto will also lead discussions under the African Continental Free Trade Area Committee of Heads of State, emphasising Kenya’s commitment to regional integration and boosting intra-African trade.

The President is expected to hold bilateral meetings with fellow African leaders to strengthen cooperation on trade, investment, health, and security, while mobilising support for Kenya’s national development agenda.

The 39th Ordinary Session will also include elections for the new AU Bureau, review of peace and security reports, and the launch of the AU Theme of the Year as Africa continues to implement Agenda 2063.
