Speaking at the funeral service of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Bondo, Siaya County, President William Ruto made a significant commitment to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

President Ruto publicly assured ODM members that his government would "support and strengthen the party," declaring it an "essential pillar of Kenya’s democracy."

He directly addressed the party's members, stating, "I want to tell you, we will respect ODM. We will support you to hold ODM together."

The President emphasized the party must remain united and strong ahead of the 2027 General Election, arguing that "ODM must be strong as we go to 2027 because that is the way we are going to have a strong government."

Ruto stressed that strong political parties are fundamental to a healthy democracy, promoting national unity and accountability. He asserted that without stable political institutions, the country cannot achieve meaningful development or good governance.

He praised ODM as a party with deep national roots and a rich history in the struggle for justice and reform, noting Raila Odinga's central role in shaping Kenya's democratic journey. The President then extended a bold assurance to supporters.

"We will either form the next government or be part of the next government. That is what we can do."

These remarks are widely viewed as an effort to consolidate unity and cooperation between the ruling administration and the ODM party, following a recent government arrangement that included some of Odinga's allies.

Finally, Ruto called on the nation to build on Raila Odinga's vision for a peaceful, democratic, and inclusive Kenya, ensuring that his contribution to national unity and the fight for democracy will not be forgotten. The event served as a moment of national reflection on Odinga's legacy and the future of Kenya's political landscape.
