News Updated: 19 November 2025 14:26 EAT
President William Ruto is scheduled to address a joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday, November 20, 2025, for his annual State of the Nation Address.
The special session, convened by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. in the National Assembly Chamber at the Main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.
In accordance with Article 132(1)(c) of the Constitution, the Head of State is required once every year to report to the nation on the measures taken and progress achieved in realizing national values and principles of governance, as well as fulfilling the country's international obligations.
The constitutional and parliamentary procedures governing the President's address require the Speakers of both the National Assembly and the Senate to officially notify all Members of Parliament (MPs) of the place, date, and time of the sitting.
This notification is mandatory for any session convened under Article 132(1)(b) of the Constitution. President Ruto’s upcoming address is his fourth such engagement with the Thirteenth Parliament since he assumed office in 2022, underscoring its political and procedural significance.
This address is a key annual event where the President is expected to outline the government’s progress over the past year, detail key policy priorities, and articulate plans for the coming year.
Historically, the State of the Nation address has provided comprehensive updates on the nation’s economic performance, governance initiatives, the status of the development agenda, and the progress of social welfare programs.
The highly anticipated session is expected to draw a large audience, including all lawmakers, senior government officials, and invited dignitaries, as the nation tunes in to assess the administration’s performance and future direction.
