President William Ruto has unveiled an extensive infrastructure transformation program.

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County, the Head of State said the initiative is designed to revitalize the nation's economy by establishing crucial connections and generating fresh opportunities across all sectors.

Central to this blueprint is the enduring vision of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The President acknowledged that Mr. Odinga, who previously served as Minister for Roads, Public Works, and Housing, continues to inspire the current growth agenda for a modern, connected Kenya.

"Baba, who also served as Minister for Roads, Public Works, and Housing under the late President Mwai Kibaki, often reminded me that no economy can flourish without world-class infrastructure," he said.

President Ruto underscored the necessity of bold investments, stating that infrastructure, spanning roads, railways, and trade corridors, is the indispensable backbone of future national prosperity.

The President said his administration is committed to dualling at least 1,000 kilometers of major highways across the country.

Among them are the Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit–Eldoret–Malaba road, the Makutano–Embu–Meru road, the Kitengela–Namanga road, the Mombasa–Nairobi highway, and the Marua–Nanyuki–Isiolo road.

In addition, he announced plans to construct an extra 10,000 kilometers of new tarmac roads to link farmers, traders, and manufacturers to markets nationwide.

The President also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line from Naivasha to Kisumu and onward to Malaba, creating a continuous rail link between Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
