President William Ruto on Friday hosted graduate interns recruited under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme at State House, Nairobi, in an engagement aimed at strengthening youth participation in national development projects.
The interns were recently onboarded to support the rollout of affordable housing projects across the country, with roles spanning construction, engineering, planning, surveying, and project management.
Addressing the interns, President Ruto said the programme was designed not only to deliver decent and affordable homes, but also to create jobs and provide practical experience for young professionals entering the workforce.
He noted that the housing initiative remains a key pillar of his administration’s economic agenda, linking it to employment creation, skills development, and growth of the construction sector.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki attended the meeting and emphasised the importance of professionalism, discipline, and accountability in delivering large-scale public projects.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development were also present and briefed the interns on their deployment to housing projects in different parts of the country.
The officials said the interns will work under supervision to enhance technical capacity and support timely delivery of housing units.
The Affordable Housing Programme is one of the government’s flagship initiatives aimed at addressing Kenya’s housing deficit while stimulating economic activity.
The State House engagement highlighted the government’s push to integrate young graduates into priority development programmes as part of broader youth empowerment efforts.
