President William Ruto today announced a major step toward achieving Universal Health Coverage, launching a new sponsorship program under the Social Health Authority (SHA) that will provide free medical care to over 2.2 million vulnerable Kenyans.

In a social media post, the President said the initiative is part of an "irrevocable commitment" by his administration to ensure all citizens have access to quality healthcare, regardless of their economic status.

"We have taken another significant step in fulfilling that pledge," the President said. "Through the new SHA Sponsorship Programme, more than 2.2 million vulnerable Kenyans will now access medical care free of charge."

The President added that the government will continue to identify and enroll more of its most vulnerable citizens into the program, to build a healthcare system that is "robust, responsive, and truly equitable."

The launch marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to reform the country's healthcare system and expand health insurance coverage to the most marginalized communities.
