Police have launched investigations after suspected criminals broke into PCEA Githunguchu Church in Ndeiya, Kiambu County, and stole electronic equipment, musical instruments and other valuables in a night-time burglary that also saw the intruders drink communion wine before fleeing.

The break-in was discovered by church officials when they arrived at the church and found that the premises had been forcibly accessed. Officers from the National Police Service visited the scene to document the incident and begin investigations.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspects gained entry by breaking into the church building before targeting equipment used during worship services. Among the stolen items were sound system components, music equipment and other electronic devices essential for church activities.

Church leaders said the burglars ransacked several sections of the sanctuary while searching for valuables, leaving behind damaged property and signs of forced entry.

In an incident that has left members of the congregation shocked, the suspects reportedly accessed the church's communion table and drank the sacramental wine before escaping with the stolen items.

Crime scene investigators processed the church for forensic evidence as detectives began recording statements from church officials, security personnel and residents in the surrounding area.

Police have not announced any arrests, but investigations are focusing on identifying the suspects, tracing the stolen property and establishing whether the burglary is linked to other similar incidents reported in the region.

Church leaders condemned the burglary, describing it as a significant loss that has disrupted normal worship activities and affected equipment acquired through contributions from members.

The incident has renewed concerns over the increasing number of thefts targeting places of worship, with churches in various parts of the country reporting burglaries involving sound systems, musical instruments and electronic equipment.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in identifying the suspects or recovering the stolen property to report it to the nearest police station.

Security experts have urged churches to strengthen security by installing surveillance cameras, improving lighting, reinforcing entry points and working closely with local community policing initiatives.

Investigations into the burglary are ongoing as detectives pursue leads aimed at apprehending those responsible and recovering the stolen church property.
