The Bicameral Parliament resumed its sittings this afternoon after a month-long recess, with a packed legislative calendar set to dominate the coming weeks. Lawmakers are poised to tackle a range of crucial issues, including the vetting of high-profile government nominees and the debate on several significant bills.

A crucial item on the agenda is the consideration and possible approval of individuals vetted by the National Assembly's Defense and Foreign Relations Committee. This process is essential for filling key diplomatic and state positions, including high commissioners, ambassadors, and the chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

In addition to appointments, the National Assembly will debate several important bills with far-reaching implications for the country's economy and governance. These include the Privatization Bill (No. 36 of 2025): Sponsored by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, this bill aims to create a new Privatization Authority to streamline the sale of state entities, such as the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC). It is expected to improve efficiency and attract private investment.

Also the Kenya Roads (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill (No. 34 of 2025) is among the prioritized bills:This bill, sponsored by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, seeks to reclassify roads into national and county categories. A key provision is the direct allocation of the Road Maintenance Levy Fund to counties to ensure consistent funding for local infrastructure projects.

The Senate, on the other hand, will mainly focus on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2025. This is a significant proposed constitutional reform that aims to strengthen the Senate's powers.
