Parliament Extends Bipartisan Talks By 30 Days
The parliament has resolved to extend the mandate of the National Dialogue Committee by 30 days.
“…The houses of Parliament resolve to extend the mandate of the National Dialogue Committee by a further 30 days from 28th October 2023,” National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah, announced in the parliament on Tuesday.
“Consequently, the committee shall be required to report to the leadership of Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalitions on or before 26th November 2023 and thereafter submit a report to Parliament.”
This follows a request from the National Dialogue Committee who sought for an extension in a bid to conclude their discussions before submitting a report.
The team was to complete its sittings and submit a report by the end of October.
On August 29, the Parliament passed a resolution establishing the National Dialogue committee to investigate key issues of interest to Kenyans and report back within 60 days.
The issues include; reconstitution of the IEBC, implementation of the two-thirds gender rule, entrenchment of Constituency Development Fund, establishment and the entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.
The committee will also consider the cost of living, the audit of the 2022 presidential election results, the restructuring and reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and the inclusivity and fidelity of opposition political parties.
