More than 20 people have been arrested after police raided a suspected cult shrine in Juja following allegations of harmful religious practices.

Officers launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports linking the site to suspicious activities believed to involve cult-like rituals and violations of human rights.

According to Juja Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu, the suspects were arrested during the raid as security officers secured the compound and began questioning individuals found at the location.

Authorities said the shrine had reportedly been associated with practices considered harmful, including allegations of Female Genital Mutilation being carried out within the secluded premises.

Police officers recovered several items from the compound believed to have been used in the suspected activities, with detectives documenting evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

The suspects were taken into custody at nearby police stations as investigators seek to establish the full scope of activities that may have been conducted at the shrine.

Officials indicated that some of those arrested are believed to be followers of the group operating at the site, while others are suspected of organising or facilitating the alleged practices.

The raid forms part of wider efforts by Kenyan authorities to crack down on illegal cult operations and harmful practices in different parts of the country.

Investigations are continuing as police work to determine whether additional victims may have been affected and whether more suspects linked to the group remain at large.
