Activist and politician Boniface Mwangi has been elected leader of Ukweli Party following a National Delegates Conference held in Nairobi, a development that formally places him at the helm of the political outfit as it prepares for future national engagement.

Delegates drawn from different parts of the country gathered for the conference to elect party officials and deliberate on the organisation’s strategic direction. The meeting concluded with Mwangi receiving the mandate to lead the party in its next phase of political mobilisation and expansion.

The election marks another major step in Mwangi’s evolution from civil society activism into frontline politics after years of public advocacy on governance, accountability and citizen participation.

Party officials described the conference as an important milestone in strengthening internal democracy and building structures intended to increase participation across counties and grassroots networks.

Mwangi’s leadership is expected to shape the party’s policy agenda and national messaging as political formations begin positioning themselves ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

Over the years, Mwangi has gained national recognition through activism campaigns, public accountability initiatives and direct engagement on governance matters before increasingly shifting attention toward electoral politics.

Ukweli Party has consistently presented itself as a citizen-driven political movement advocating for transparent leadership, public inclusion and greater involvement of ordinary Kenyans in governance processes.

With the leadership transition now complete, attention turns to how the party will expand its footprint nationally, recruit new members and convert civic mobilisation into an organised political force in the months ahead.
