Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has declared Senator Gloria Orwoba's seat vacant as a result of her expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance.
The vacancy was confirmed in a Gazette Notice on May 21, 2025, pursuant to Article 101(2) of the Constitution.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to Article 101 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, a seat of the member of the Senate elected under Article 98 (1) (b) of the Constitution, held by Gloria Orwoba, has become vacant with effect from the 21st of May, 2025,” read the gazette notice.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar formally wrote to Speaker Kingi to commence Orwoba's dismissal and recommended Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from the Kimilili Constituency to succeed her.

“In accordance with the party’s nomination rules and based on the party list submitted to the IEBC prior to the 2022 General Election, the party has nominated Mrs. Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to fill the resulting vacancy,” he added.

Orwoba was dismissed from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party on Monday on claims of disloyalty and a violation of the party's Code of Conduct.
Her dismissal was specifically related to her attendance at the homecoming festivities for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i, a key opposition politician and 2027 presidential candidate.
The UDA party saw her participation in the activities, as well as her public criticism of government policy, as acts of treason and a violation of party objectives.
The party's Disciplinary Committee made the judgment after extensive deliberation, and the UDA National Executive Committee validated it on May 19, 2025.

The Senator had tried to block her expulsion, but Justice Lawrence Mugambi rejected it, citing procedural issues in her legal challenge.

"I have read the Notice of Motion application dated May 19, 2025, filed under certificate of urgency, and the supporting affidavit Gloria Orwoba swore on May 19, 2025, and direct as follows.

"That it is apparent that the applicant has added new parties who are not in the original petition without seeking the leave of this court to amend the petition. The application is incompetent and is rejected. Previous directions are maintained," the judge ruled.
