Nyandarua Leaders Call For Combined Effort To Address Needs Of Persons With Disabilities
A section of leaders from Nyandarua County is now calling for combined efforts in a bid to address critical issues amongst Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the county.
The leaders led by Ndaragwa Member of Parliament George Gachagua, MCAs Joyce Munyua (nominated), and Milkah Wanjiru (Kiriita Ward) lamented that despite various campaigns on Person With Disabilities' rights awareness majority of them are neglected and mishandled.
They want persons with disabilities incorporated in key decision-making organs in both the government and private sector to help address their challenges.
They were speaking at Nyonjoro village in Ndaragwa Constituency during the launch of the Joyce Munyua Foundation, which aims at supporting Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the region with assistive devices such as wheelchairs courtesy of the nominated MCA representing persons With Disabilities (PWDs) at the Nyandarua County Assembly.
MP Gachagua lauded the launch of the initiative adding that it will be easy for the leaders and local people to collectively respond to persons with disabilities needs.
At the same time, Milkah Wanjiru from Kiriita Ward emphasized the need to support such initiatives to safeguard the rights and interests of Persons With Disabilities.
She further regretted that some public infrastructures such as buildings and toilets are not disability-friendly noting that they lacked ramps to enable them gain access which hinders them from getting crucial services.
