Firefighters were on Friday deployed to contain a major fire that broke out at Wall Street Business Park in Embakasi, Nairobi County, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The blaze erupted in the morning hours and quickly spread through sections of the commercial and industrial complex, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky.
Emergency teams, including county fire units and security officers, rushed to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent buildings within the business park.
Initial reports indicated that the fire may have started in one of the godowns before rapidly extending to nearby structures housing business operations and storage facilities.
Area Embakasi OCPD Wesley Kimeto confirmed that the cause of the inferno had not yet been established as firefighters battled to bring it under control.
Authorities said investigations would be launched once the fire is fully contained to determine the origin and possible trigger of the incident.
Business operators and workers within the premises were forced to evacuate as emergency teams prioritized containment and safety measures.
Firefighters worked for several hours, focusing on preventing the blaze from spreading further into densely packed commercial units in the area.
Witnesses reported chaotic scenes as explosions and collapsing structures were heard within parts of the business park during the height of the fire.
Police and emergency services cordoned off sections of the area to allow firefighting operations to proceed without obstruction from onlookers.
By the time of reporting, officials had not confirmed the extent of damage or whether there were any injuries or fatalities linked to the incident.
Authorities are expected to carry out a full assessment of losses and structural damage once cooling operations are completed and the site is declared safe.
