NTSA Withdraws Instant Fines Rollout Notice Over Clarity Issues
News Updated: 27 March 2026 21:42 EAT
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has withdrawn the public notice it issued on March 9, 2026, announcing the rollout of its Instant Fines Management System.
In a statement on Friday, March 27, the authority said it pulled back the notice to allow time to provide clearer guidance on how minor traffic offences will be handled under the new system.
NTSA acknowledged that many motorists and stakeholders did not have a full understanding of the procedures and legal framework for applying instant fines, prompting the decision to revise communications.
The Instant Fines Management System was designed to automate detection of traffic violations and send fine notifications to motorists via SMS without the need for on‑the‑spot arrest or manual ticketing.
The system had been rolled out earlier in March with the goal of streamlining enforcement of traffic regulations and reducing congestion at police checkpoints.
However, the rollout attracted questions and confusion from road users, leading NTSA to reassess the messaging and operational details.
Under the revised plan, NTSA said it will issue more detailed procedural guidelines before announcing a new implementation date.
The authority indicated that the system will not be implemented until those clarifications are made public.
Motorists, enforcement officers, and other stakeholders are expected to receive the updated framework before the Instant Fines Management System is reintroduced.
