The Nairobi Metropolitan Services is set to commission Uhuru and Central parks on Monday.

The event slated for 7 to 8 pm will be characterized by fireworks extravaganza moment.

“It is notified for General information of the Public that there will be a Fireworks Extravaganza in Uhuru Park between 7-8pm on 12th Monday in celebration of Commissioning of Uhuru & Central Park. Members of the public are advised to anticipate & enjoy the display,” the notice stated.

The two projects which have been under renovation for 11 months are part of the plans by the government to facelift the city.

The renovations included restoring green spaces in Nairobi County, maintaining trees and enhancing walkways.

The NMS projects aimed at upgrading the parks to the standards of the parks in Dubai, United Arabs Emirates.

After commissioning they will operate on a 24-hour basis with well-established fences and beefed-up security.

The central park will have an outdoor library for use by children to read and also for book launches.

On the other hand, Uhuru park’s lilies pond will be named Uhuru Aquascape.

Further, the park will include a Nyatiti-shaped events garden, as well as a children’s play area, with bouncing castles and merry-go-rounds.

There will be a botanical space with all species of flowers and plants to capture Kenya’s floral biodiversity, with flowers and plants labelled to enhance learning.

The artificial lake will be transformed into a major waterfront with a Swahili restaurant.
