Nairobi to Enforce Major Traffic Diversions Ahead of CHAN 2024 Thursday Matches

Motorists in the capital have been advised to expect significant traffic disruptions on Thursday, August 7, as Kenya continues to host CHAN 2024 fixtures at both Moi International Sports Centre (Kasarani) and Nyayo National Stadium.
Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir confirmed that key stretches of Nairobi roads will face closures:
-
Aerodrome Road: fully closed between Madaraka Roundabout and Bunyala Roundabout
-
Lang’ata Road: one lane closed from Madaraka to Lusaka roundabouts
-
Mombasa Road: one lane closed between Lusaka and Bunyala roundabouts
According to the commandant, these measures aim to ensure smooth movement for fans, teams, and officials during the DR Congo vs. Zambia match at Nyayo Stadium and Kenya vs. Angola at Kasarani Stadium on that day.
Alternative routes recommended to minimize delays:
-
From Mombasa Road to the CBD: Ikoni‑Enterprise Road (General Motors) or Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni
-
From Lang’ata Road: Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout
-
CBD to Thika, Juja, Ruiru: via Limuru Road or Kiambu Road
-
For fans heading to Kasarani Stadium: matatus to use Ruaraka‑Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo Roundabout
-
From Thika Road to CBD: use Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road (avoid Thika Road unless directly headed to Kasarani)
Traffic marshals will be on the ground at major junctions to ensure order and direct drivers efficiently.
Kenya hopes to seal a second win against Angola, while DR Congo is aiming for their first of the tournament when it plays Zambia.
