Four officials from the Nairobi Hospital - Board Chairman Dr. Job Obwaka, Samson Mbuthia Kinyanjui, Chris Bichage and Valarie Akinyi
Nairobi Hospital board chair Dr Job Obwaka and three co-accused have been released on a Sh5 million personal bond each after appearing before a court in Nairobi over allegations linked to the hospital’s management.
The four appeared before a magistrate at the Milimani Law Courts where the court granted them bond with conditions that each provides two contact persons as part of the release terms.
Those charged alongside Obwaka are Chris Bichage, Samson Kinyanjui and Valarie Akinyi, who are linked to the ongoing governance dispute surrounding the hospital’s leadership and operations.
The court directed that the matter will proceed to pre-trial on March 31, 2026, when further directions on how the case will proceed are expected.
The case follows the arrest of Obwaka by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations who reportedly picked him up outside his office before detaining him at Muthaiga Police Station.
Investigators are probing allegations related to the falsification of members’ register records, said to be connected to governance and administrative processes within the hospital.
The arrest sparked reactions within sections of the medical fraternity, with some professionals questioning the manner of the arrest and calling for due process in addressing disputes involving hospital leadership.
The case unfolds amid ongoing leadership wrangles that have affected the management of The Nairobi Hospital in recent months.
The accused are expected back in court later this month as the case moves to the pre-trial stage.
