NACADA Seizes 1,843 Bottles in Kitui Crackdown on Illicit Alcohol Trade

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) carried out a multi-agency raid in Kitui Town on April 16, targeting a wines and spirits outlet suspected of distributing counterfeit alcohol.
During the operation, officers confiscated 1,843 bottles of suspected counterfeit alcoholic beverages. A female proprietor of the outlet was arrested and taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue.
The enforcement action focused on disrupting supply chains linked to illicit alcohol in the region, with the targeted outlet identified by authorities as a key distribution point.
Security teams involved in the operation indicated the raid was part of an ongoing national crackdown aimed at eliminating counterfeit and unregulated alcohol from the market.
The seized products have been taken for verification and analysis to establish authenticity and determine the extent of counterfeiting.
Authorities say follow-up investigations are underway to trace suppliers and identify any wider network connected to the distribution of the illicit stock.
NACADA has maintained that such operations will continue across high-risk areas as part of broader efforts to protect public health and curb alcohol abuse linked to unregulated products.
