Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday issued a scathing rebuke of what he termed a rising culture of lawlessness in Kenya.

His remarks come on the heels of the scheduled Gen Z memorial protests, which mark one year after the 2024 anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.

Speaking Tuesday at State House, the Interior CS reflected on the events of June 25 last year when protesters stormed Parliament and vandalized public property. Murkomen described the incident as an unprecedented assault on national institutions.

“It is only in Kenya where a citizen can threaten to storm Parliament, the Judiciary, or State House and still walk free. In any other country, they’d be arrested immediately,” he said, citing examples from the UK and US where such actions are swiftly met with serious consequences.

He warned that such impunity reflects a dangerous shift in the public's attitude toward the rule of law, calling on citizens to embrace discipline.

“There’s nothing more beautiful than a peaceful country where citizens gather to celebrate victories,” he added.

Murkomen pledged full support for security agencies, stating, “We are committed to backing our men and women in uniform 100% to maintain peace and order.”
