Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Karl Darlow as their new backup option, with the transfer set to be completed after the player undergoes the final formalities and signs his contract.
The move, reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano with his “Here we go” confirmation, will see Darlow join United as a free agent following his departure from Leeds United.
The 35-year-old goalkeeper brings significant Premier League experience, having previously featured for Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest before his spell at Leeds.
Darlow spent the 2025/26 season as Leeds United’s first-choice goalkeeper, making several league appearances and gaining valuable top-flight experience.
Manchester United are expected to use Darlow as a reliable second-choice goalkeeper, adding depth and experience to their squad rather than bringing him in as a direct competitor for the starting position.
The arrival of Darlow is linked to the expected departure of Altay Bayindir, who has struggled to secure regular playing time since joining Manchester United from Fenerbahçe.
Bayindir’s exit would open space for United to restructure their goalkeeping department, with Darlow providing an experienced option behind the club’s preferred first-choice goalkeeper.
The transfer continues Manchester United’s efforts to strengthen squad depth ahead of the new season, with the club looking for experienced players who can provide stability when required.
Darlow’s contract signing is expected on Friday, after which the move will be officially confirmed.
