Kanjama SC steps forward to submit his nomination papers for LSK Presidency
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has officially announced vacancies for the positions of President, Vice President, and Council members as preparations for the 2026 elections begin. The announcement marks the formal start of the transition process within the country’s powerful lawyers’ body, with the current council’s term scheduled to come to an end in March 2026.
In a notice circulated to members, LSK stated that the declaration of vacancies has been made in accordance with its constitution and election regulations, which require ample notice before leadership changes. The positions declared vacant include the Society’s top leadership posts of President and Vice President, as well as several Council seats representing the general membership.
The current council is led by President Faith Odhiambo and Vice President Mwaura Kabata, who were elected for a two-year term. Their leadership period has been marked by strong involvement in national legal and governance debates, including advocacy on constitutionalism, human rights, judicial independence, and the rule of law.
LSK remains a key stakeholder in Kenya’s legal and political landscape, representing thousands of advocates across the country. The society plays a critical role in regulating the legal profession, safeguarding professional standards, and offering an institutional voice on major national issues affecting justice and governance.
With the elections expected to be held in early 2026, the declaration of vacancies is likely to trigger intense lobbying and political activity within the legal fraternity. Several potential contenders are already being mentioned in legal circles, as the race begins to shape up for leadership of one of Kenya’s most influential professional bodies.
