Learners with Disabilities Thrive Through Craft at St. Teresa's Special Needs School

Despite having intellectual disabilities, learners at St. Teresa's, a day special needs school in Webuye town, Bungoma county, have demonstrated remarkable talent in crafting various handmade products such as beautiful baskets, durable mats, stylish women's handbags, intricate beaded jewelry, and other decorative items.
According to Deputy Headteacher Charles Wekesa, the students possess diverse learning styles, requiring tailored approaches to help them develop skills and excel in various crafts and trades.
Headteacher Festus Masinde has appealed to the government for the timely disbursement of funds allocated to special needs education to effectively provide the necessary resources and support services, including specialized teachers, therapists, assistive devices, and appropriate learning materials.
According to Mr. Masinde, timely resource distribution guarantees that the students obtain a top-notch education and reach their full potential. It also aids in the upkeep and enhancement of the school's infrastructure, which guarantees a comfortable learning environment for the pupils.
An intellectual disability is when limitations in your mental abilities affect intelligence, learning, and everyday life skills.
