KPA pump Sh10 mn in Support of Taita Taveta League
Kenya Ports Authority in partnership with Taita Taveta Football association have launched a Youth Football League dubbed KPA Taita Taveta Super League.
Addressing the media during the launch of the second leg of the tournament at SGR football ground in Maungu township of Taita Taveta, Kenya Ports Authority principal corporate communication officer Haji Masemo said the 10 million football league sponsored by KPA will be used to scout for best players to join the corporate football club Bandari FC.
According to Masemo, the tournament will also be used as a platform to engage with youth as part of a youth empowerment programme for talent identification, drug abuse awareness.
“Many youths are facing drug abuse and crime in our society, that’s why we have decided to launch the league programme to empower more youths to engage in sporting activities as a way of keeping them occupied,” Masemo further said.
Taita Taveta Football association Vice Chair Hassan Mwaniki lauded the KPA Sponsorship saying it has helped to revive the ailing clubs in Taita Taveta County.
“We are engaging football clubs from the grassroots level; the teams have benefited from balls, football boots, nets and uniform to the 32 teams,” said Mwaniki.
The Vice Chair further said KPA is also catering for allowances of referees overseeing the tournament, transport allowance for the teams and insurance of the players during the tournament.
