The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced a new e-Certificate platform allowing former KCPE and KCSE candidates to access and download digital copies of their examination certificates online, marking a major shift in examination record management in Kenya.

The platform is designed to digitise certificate services and reduce reliance on physical applications, enabling users to retrieve academic documents without visiting KNEC offices or their former schools.

According to official information from KNEC and verified reports, the system covers examination records stored in the national database from 1989 to 2025, making it one of the most comprehensive digital archives of national examination results in the country.

The service is accessible through an online portal where candidates are required to create an account and register their personal and examination details before initiating any certificate request.

Applicants must undergo an identity verification process to ensure that only legitimate certificate holders can access their academic records, strengthening data security and reducing cases of fraud.

After verification, users are required to make a payment of KSh 1,200, in addition to applicable VAT and eCitizen transaction charges, before the certificate can be processed for download.

Payments are made through integrated government digital payment systems, ensuring streamlined transactions within Kenya’s broader e-government framework.

Once payment is confirmed, successful applicants are able to download their certificates in secure PDF format directly from the portal.

KNEC has stated that the digital certificates are designed to be tamper-proof and can be used for official purposes, including employment applications and further education verification.

The system also introduces an electronic validation feature that allows institutions and employers to verify certificate authenticity online, reducing reliance on manual verification processes.

Officials say the platform is part of ongoing reforms aimed at modernising Kenya’s examination administration system and improving service delivery efficiency across the education sector.

The digital shift is also expected to significantly reduce processing delays that have previously affected candidates applying for replacement or verification of lost certificates.

KNEC further notes that the platform will help curb certificate fraud while improving accessibility for both local and international candidates whose results are stored in the national database.

The rollout of the e-Certificate system is viewed as a key milestone in Kenya’s transition toward fully digital public service delivery, aligning with broader government efforts to enhance transparency and efficiency in education management.
