Police in Nairobi are investigating a fatal incident involving a Kenya Medical Training College student who died after allegedly being ejected from a moving public service vehicle along Thika Road. The incident has triggered widespread concern over passenger safety in the capital’s busy transport corridors.

The student, identified as a 19-year-old from KMTC Yatta Campus, was reportedly travelling towards Kasarani for his clinical attachment when the confrontation inside the vehicle occurred. Early reports indicate that the altercation stemmed from a fare disagreement between the passenger and crew of a matatu operating under Nicco Movers SACCO.

Witness accounts and emerging video evidence suggest the situation escalated inside the moving vehicle before the student ended up on the road. It remains unclear whether he was forcibly pushed out or fell during the confrontation, with investigators treating both possibilities as part of their inquiry.

The incident unfolded along the heavily trafficked Thika Road highway, where several motorists reportedly stopped after noticing the injured passenger on the tarmac. Members of the public assisted in rushing him to hospital after the fall.

He was first taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where medical personnel attempted to stabilise him. Despite emergency treatment, he later succumbed to severe head and body injuries sustained during the fall.

Following the incident, the matatu driver and conductor are said to have fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle in Nairobi’s Kariokor area. The vehicle was later impounded by police for forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Security agencies have since launched a manhunt for the crew linked to the vehicle, with authorities seeking to establish the exact sequence of events and determine criminal liability.

The tragedy has intensified public anger over reckless conduct in public transport, particularly within Nairobi’s high-speed highway routes, where passenger safety concerns have been repeatedly raised.

Police say no arrests have been made so far, but they are reviewing witness statements and video footage circulating online to piece together how the fatal incident unfolded.
