Stakeholders in Keroka town at the boundary of Kisii and Nyamira counties have described its social infrastructure as wanting.

Open drains channeled wastewater and sewerage downstream jeopardizing residents’ public health, including school children.

Heaps of garbage some of which included used cheap alcohol bottles, stale fresh produce, and disused merchandise lay uncollected for some days.

Ichuni Ward Representative,  Wycliffe Siocha, lamented over the situation obtaining at the town saying a clean-up exercise by the residents indicated shocking revelations.

The drainage system was in shambles, he claimed even after a contractor had been hired to do the works and received payment.

He  pledged to compile a report on the same  seeking intervention from the authorities to among others put in place a sewerage system.

Abagusii Culture and Development Council secretary general Bosire Angwenyi also a resident of the town, suggested prompt action to be taken to install the much-required town’s urban facilities.

Keroka as a rapidly developing town should be in a position to attract tourists and investors, he added.

Stephen Mong’are another resident, decried release of the waste in open drains to the river where  unsuspecting  children and livestock consumed it.

According to Mong’are, Kisii governor, Simba Arati  should visit the section of the town that fell under his jurisdiction and order  the  open drains to be covered  owing to the vicinity of several institutions.

Edina Nyanchera, called for the authorities to fix the glaring danger the  state of the town posed to its residents as a matter of urgency.
