Kenyans have been asked to visit their nearest Chief's office to get tree seedlings for the National Tree Growing Day on Monday, November 13, 2023.

This announcement follows Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki's declaration of Monday, November 13, 2023, a public holiday for the public to take part in a national tree-growing exercise.

"In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Monday, November 13, 2023, a public holiday in which the public shall be engaged in tree growing countrywide," the gazette notice read.

According to a gazette notice dated November 6, President William Ruto will lead the exercise in line with his administration's plan of growing 10 billion trees by 2032.

The Head of State will launch the National Tree Growing Day at Kiu Wetland in Makindu, Makueni.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo urged Kenyans to participate in the exercise which will be championed by Cabinet Secretaries in at least two counties, hosted by respective governors, and supported by PSs, county commissioners, and other senior government officials.

PS Omollo said the National Tree Growing Day has been set aside to take advantage of the ongoing short rains.
