Activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo have been freed after 38 days of their disappearance, a development welcomed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo. The two were located and released in Busia on Thursday night.

Odhiambo, speaking through a statement on X, noted that she, alongside VOCAL Africa and Amnesty Kenya, celebrated their return. Having been missing for more than a month, she deemed the release a significant milestone for human rights advocates in the area.

Her official announcement reiterated the core fact: “We welcome the release of Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi last night in Busia after 38 days of their enforced disappearance.”

Gratitude was extended to all parties involved in the campaign for their freedom. Odhiambo said: “We extend our appreciation to their families, Free Kenya movement colleagues, human rights defenders, journalists, the ministries of foreign affairs in Kenya and Tanzania, and all active citizens who have tirelessly campaigned for this moment.”

The LSK President concluded by hoping this outcome signals a shift in regional advocacy, stating the release should "mark a turning point in how East Africans’ rights are protected across the region."
