Kenya reaffirmed its dominance in global middle-distance running on Day 5 of the 2025 Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, securing a spectacular 1-2 finish in the Men's 1,500m final.
In a show of force, James Musembi Mwanza stormed across the finish line to claim the gold medal, leading a significant sweep for Team Kenya.
His compatriot, Elkana Kiprop Rono, secured the silver medal, ensuring the top two spots in the highly anticipated event belonged to Kenya.
Furthermore, the nation added to its medal haul in the Women's 1,500m final, where Sharon Bitok Jeptarus fought determinedly to clinch a brilliant bronze medal.
Following these impressive track performances, Team Kenya's total medal tally now stands at 7, comprising 2 Gold, 3 Silver, and 2 Bronze, reinforcing the nation's prowess at the quadrennial multi-sport event
Away from the athletics track, the Kenya Women's Deaf Basketball team wrapped up their Tokyo Deaflympics journey after a demanding final Group A match, where they fell 90–33 to a strong Lithuania side.
Despite finishing the tournament with challenging results against top basketball nations like Australia, Italy, and Lithuania, the team exhibited tremendous heart, discipline, courage, and pure Kenyan pride in every game.
The players approached their campaign with grit and dignity, viewing the experience as a vital stepping stone.
