Kenya Dominates Deaflympics Track and Field

Kenyan athletes have launched a stunning performance at the Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, dominating the track with a powerful one-two finish in the men's 10,000 m race. Ian Wambui Kahinga powered through to claim the gold medal, closely followed by fellow Kenyan David Kiptum Kipkogei, who secured the silver, adding significantly to the country's tally.

The team has further secured a silver medal in the track events with a strong showing in the 4x400m mixed relay. The quartet of Linet Fwamba, Beryl Wamira, Simon Menza, and Isaac Atima secured second place, finishing behind gold medalist Ukraine, with Colombia taking the bronze.

However, the Kenya women's Deaf basketball team faced a tough start to their campaign, suffering a heavy 104-30 defeat against giants Australia in their Group "A" match at the Ota-City General Gymnasium on Sunday.

The team struggled to contain the opposition, losing all four quarters (44-3, 15-9, 28-8, and 17-10). Coach Mary Chepkoi attributed the significant loss primarily to fatigue following the strenuous long travel from Nairobi.

Despite the setback, Chepkoi expressed confidence that her girls would rally in their upcoming games.
