George Kamal Appointed Acting Boss The Board Of Directors Of Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways has announced the exit of its Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Allan Kilavuka following the expiry of his six-year contract. The national carrier said the transition marks the conclusion of Kilavuka’s tenure, during which he led the airline through a prolonged period of operational and financial challenges.

In a statement, Kenya Airways confirmed that Captain George Kamal has been appointed Acting Group Managing Director and CEO with immediate effect. Kamal, who previously served as the airline’s Chief Operating Officer, will steer the company as the board begins the process of identifying a substantive chief executive.

Kilavuka joined Kenya Airways in 2019 and oversaw the airline during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that severely disrupted global aviation. His tenure was marked by restructuring efforts, cost controls and operational reforms aimed at stabilising the carrier after years of losses.

Captain Kamal brings extensive aviation experience to the acting role, with a career spanning flight operations, safety management and senior executive leadership in Africa and the Middle East. The board said his appointment is intended to ensure continuity and operational stability during the transition period.

Kenya Airways said the leadership change comes as the airline focuses on consolidating recent performance gains while navigating a highly competitive aviation environment. The board thanked Kilavuka for his service and indicated it will provide updates on the leadership transition in due course.
