Kenya’s 5th Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 5), deployed under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), has brought festive joy to Dorica Orphanage on the outskirts of Oicha town. The team visited the facility to share foodstuffs and essential items with 22 orphaned children, offering both material support and moral encouragement.
The children at Dorica Orphanage, all under the age of 10, received the donations with excitement and gratitude. KENQRF 5 personnel engaged directly with the children, spending time with them and sharing messages of hope and encouragement during the holiday season.
The outreach was led by Lieutenant Colonel Celestine Papa, the Contingent Commander of KENQRF 5. He emphasised that the mission of the contingent extends beyond security, noting that supporting community welfare and the well-being of civilians forms a crucial part of their peacekeeping duties.
During the visit, the team conducted prayers for the children and caregivers, adding a spiritual dimension to the initiative. The gesture aimed to demonstrate that the peacekeeping mission is as much about humanity and social responsibility as it is about maintaining security in conflict-prone areas.
The orphanage’s management expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support, highlighting the challenges of running the facility without consistent resources. They noted that such contributions go a long way in sustaining the children’s daily needs and ensuring their well-being.
The visit underscores the Kenya Defence Forces’ commitment to uplifting communities in eastern DRC while fulfilling their mandate under MONUSCO. By combining security duties with humanitarian support, KENQRF 5 continues to build goodwill and strengthen relations with local populations in areas of deployment.
