Kencom House To Host Free Basic KSL Training During Deaf Awareness Week

BY FAITH MASIGA

Kencom House in Nairobi will host a week-long free Basic Kenya Sign Language training program during Deaf Awareness Week, September 25-29.

This significant stride towards fostering inclusivity and understanding aims to provide community members with the opportunity to learn and embrace this vital form of communication.

The program is a collaborative effort organized by several non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and governmental bodies dedicated to promoting equal access and opportunities for the Deaf community in Kenya.

The objective is to equip participants with fundamental communication skills using Kenya Sign Language, fostering a more inclusive society where barriers to communication are broken down.

The event will be divided into structured sessions led by experienced sign language instructors. These sessions will cover essential aspects of Kenya Sign Language, including common phrases, vocabulary, and basic conversational skills.

The training will also provide insights into Deaf culture and the importance of inclusivity within the community.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register for the training, ensuring an organized and efficient learning experience. The training sessions will be interactive, allowing attendees to practice and apply their newfound skills in real-life scenarios.

Deaf Awareness Week, an annual global event, is dedicated to increasing awareness about the Deaf community, and their culture, and advocating for equal rights and opportunities.

The free Basic Kenya Sign Language training at Kencom House is a powerful demonstration of the commitment to creating an inclusive society where everyone’s voice is heard.

Together, let us embrace the power of communication and break barriers for a more inclusive world.
