The nation today, Tuesday, October 14, 2025, marks the annual Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Day, a solemn national occasion dedicated to honoring the service, sacrifice, and bravery of the men and women in uniform.
President William Ruto arrived at Moi Barracks in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, for the occasion, donning full military uniform as he led the country in the commemoration.
The day serves as a powerful reminder of the military’s core mission to protect and serve all Kenyans. Since its first observance in 2012, KDF Day has become both a celebration of the military’s continued contribution to national and regional security and a solemn reminder of the ultimate price paid by soldiers on the battlefield.
It also marks the anniversary of Operation Linda Nchi, which was launched on October 14, 2011, when the KDF entered Somalia to combat the Al-Shabaab militant group.
Meanwhile, the planned operations of the military remain unaffected by legal challenges. Cabinet Secretary (CS) Soipan Tuya on Monday confirmed that the KDF recruitment schedule will proceed as planned, despite a pending court case challenging the exercise.
The CS gave assurances that the government is "determined to stick to the planned timeline" for the national recruitment drive.
