KDF Announces 2025 Nationwide Recruitment Drive

The Ministry of Defence has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise for 2025, seeking to enlist skilled professionals and officers into the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The recruitment drive is scheduled to take place across the country in October.

The KDF is looking to fill a variety of roles, including General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, and General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen and women, and Defence Forces Constables.

The recruitment team, comprising officers from the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, and Kenya Navy, will visit designated centers throughout the month.

For General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics, and one (1) Science subject. Must be a Bachelor’s degree holder from a recognized University/Institution. The training program for this category will last three years, culminating in a BSc in Military Science and Security Studies.

The Specialist Officers must meet the GSO Cadet academic qualifications (with an exception for Chaplains/Imams who need a minimum C+ in KCSE) and hold a degree from a recognized institution. Registration with a relevant statutory or regulatory body is also required where applicable. The training for Specialist Officers will be six months.

For Servicemen/women (General Duty) Recruits, a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in KCSE is required for this role.

Further, for Tradesmen and Women Candidates with a diploma, they must have a minimum mean grade of C (Plain) in KCSE and a relevant diploma. Certificate holders need a minimum mean grade of D+ (Plus) in KCSE, along with a relevant Certificate and Government Trade Test Grade II or Craft II. National Youth Service (NYS) trained technicians or artisans who meet these requirements are also encouraged to apply.

The Defence Forces Constables' category is open to retired KDF service members and retired NYS personnel. Retired KDF members must be between 30 and 55 years old, have served for at least nine years with an honorable discharge, and have a minimum conduct rating of “Very Good.” For retired NYS personnel, the age limit is 35 to 45 years.

The KDF noted that selected candidates will undergo final verification at designated training institutions before joining the forces.

Interested applicants for the positions of Specialist Officer and Tradesmen/women must apply online via applications.mod.go.ke. The deadline for online applications is October 12.
