Kaimuri Karauki Urges Inclusive Education For ADHD And Dyslexic Learners

In an engaging breakfast show aired on Signs TV, Kaimuri Karauki, the chief executive officer of Learning Differently Limited, emphasized the urgent need for inclusivity in the education sector, specifically for learners with Dyslexia and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Hosted by Alan Habert, the session shed light on the challenges faced by neurodiverse children in mainstream education systems. Karauki stressed that many institutions still hold misconceptions about conditions such as ADHD and Dyslexia, leading to inadequate support structures.
“When we talk about ADHD, it’s not a learning disability. It is a specific learning disability,” Karauki clarified, urging education stakeholders to understand the distinction and respond accordingly.
Karauki highlighted the importance of awareness, noting that both teachers and parents must be educated about neurodevelopmental conditions. She described awareness as a two-way street, essential for building supportive learning environments for affected children.
“We have to create awareness first and make sure that the teachers, parents, and caregivers know that this condition exists,” she said.
She further added that collaboration between educators, families, and education policymakers is crucial in ensuring that learners with ADHD and Dyslexia are not left behind in Kenya's academic journey.
“Collaboration with both teachers and other stakeholders in the education sector is very vital in ensuring that the education environment is conducive for ADHD kids,” Karauki concluded.
